The return of wood as a building material to the city was also a major topic at Swissbau.

At a focus event, Timber Construction Switzerland and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts presented the leanWOOD project, in which four universities from different countries are involved. leanWOOD demonstrates the great potential for efficiency increases in the planning and construction of timber structures and serves to develop new cooperation and process models for innovative timber construction. Based on lean management, the usual planning and construction processes are adapted to the production conditions of industrialized timber construction. This also reduces the large variety of proprietary software systems used by specialist engineers.

In a video statement, Stefan Zöllig explains that today even large wooden buildings can be realized without steel.
