More and more large buildings are being built with timber as a renewable building material. Timbatec is a leading, innovative company in this growing future market. We construct multi-story buildings, industrial buildings and bridges in timber. And we develop modern timber construction products according to individual requirements.
What potential does the wood have and what gaps need to be closed? Experts will be looking into these questions at Bern Wood Day 2017, which will take place on 17 March in Münsingen.
Already 20 years ago, on February 1, 1997, engineer Stefan Zöllig founded Timbatec Timber Construction Engineers Switzerland Ltd. Meanwhile, the engineering office is already represented at four locations and has been involved in the construction of several hundred wooden buildings over the last 20 years.
The largest timber construction project currently underway in Switzerland is making progress. The erection of the first wooden building was recently celebrated at the "sue&til" development in Oberwinterthur. The foundation stone for the development was laid in April this year.
At the beginning of December, the Bau+Energie trade fair invites construction experts to the BERNEXPO trade fair and congress centre. The fair, which runs from the 8th to the 11th of December, also hosts numerous events. Timbatec founder Stefan Zöllig will talk about his experiences with wooden buildings on several of these occasions.
The Brüggliäcker residential development won gold in the residential buildings category at the Swiss Arc Award. The superstructure is characterized by its seamless integration into its surroundings. Timbatec engineers were responsible for the timber structures during the construction of the settlement.
It was started in one piece and only had to be assembled: The new pedestrian and bicycle bridge in the west of the Bernese municipality of Lyss. The bridge transport was possible because the new bridge is made of wood and has a low dead weight.
Timber construction is also becoming increasingly important in public buildings. A current example is the new school building in Bonstetten. The Schachenmatten 4 school building is a hybrid construction with concrete ceilings and load-bearing external walls made of wood.
Our company participated as a partner in WCTE. Our new exhibition stand, where we could show our vision of the city made of wood, attracted a lot of attention.
It is already 10 years since Timbatec opened a branch office in Switzerland's largest city this summer: in mid-2006, the first Zurich Timbatec employees started working in their own office.
The mass of the future plant yard of the A16 motorway is impressive: 150 metres long and 30 metres wide. This wooden building, which will be built in the valley basin of the Vallée de Tavannes, is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2016. Half of the building is currently standing, the erection ceremony is planned for the end of July.
