Logus Systembau AG is a leading manufacturer of board stacking elements. optiholz® board stacks consist only of timber (without glue or metal parts) and are manufactured using the swelling clamping dowel method.

The Source-Clamp-Plug-Method 

Dried timber dowels are driven into pre-drilled holes. The moisture compensation causes them to swell and jam in the drill hole and holds the boards stacked together. Basic elements are produced as blocks of 416 mm width, 50 to 210 mm thickness and a maximum length of 12.00 m. The timber modules are supplied to the carpenters as semi-finished products. The high design freedom allows a versatile use for ceilings and walls in residential, commercial or multi-story timber construction. 


The Client

Logus Systembau AG develops its products continuously, among others in constant cooperation with schools, institutes, suppliers and customers. As an industrial partner, it is also always involved in several research projects.


The Development

The work was divided into different levels: Creation of a first documentation (folder) based on the available data, drawings and findings. Comprehensive further development of the optiholz® board stacking system in the areas of statics, acoustics and sound insulation, fire protection and timber-concrete composite. The following laboratory tests were carried out, evaluated and recorded in reports: Acoustic optimization of the board stack surface - Determination of the burn-up and load-bearing behavior in the event of fire (F30bb and F60bb implemented, F90bb would be feasible) - Determination of the load-bearing behavior of board stacks in combination with concrete, development of a calculation method. The results and findings from the tests were used to supplement the existing product documentation. Further information: See Publications (Lecture SAH 1999).
