The project
The new Caritas Jura store is located in the industrial zone of Delémont. It is a dream come true for the company Caritas Jura, a store dedicated to second hand goods, which values recovery, sustainable and responsible consumption. This renovation project has doubled the sales area by building a new slab on the ground floor, inside the existing building. A project of restoration of the roof was also carried out, after the complete dismantling of the existing roof which had been attacked by the merule. A new slab on the ground floor was also built inside the existing building. The primary system is made of metal construction and the secondary structure of the slab is made of a ribbed wooden floor.

The construction
The new roof is composed of 2 main metal trusses and 4 wooden runners. These pieces rest on 4 central pillars and on a series of pillars distributed around the perimeter of the building. The secondary structure is made of several roofing elements. One element is formed by 3 joists and 2 half-joists, statically glued to a 3-ply. The composition of the roof was defined according to the physics of the building. The primary system of the new slab is planned in steel construction. The secondary structure consists of a ribbed wooden floor.

The challenge
The main goal of the project was to remediate the existing roof that had allowed merula to develop. One idea was to salvage some of the healthy wood pieces from the old roof so that they could be reused. It was thus possible to create a circular added value and thus avoid a high volume of waste generated by the construction sector.
