Car shelter Blümlimattweg, Thun

2001

The client was looking for an economical load-bearing system for a car shelter. Based on the good experience with the girder grid at the Pappelweg property, it was decided to use a girder grid here as well. In addition to its functional aesthetics, this system also proved to be extremely cost-effective.

The project
Since the roof could not be prefabricated as an intact component, it was delivered in three foldable individual parts. Parts of about 4.5 x 5.0 m were manufactured, folded to about 1.80 x 8.50 m and returned to their original shape on site. The beam height was set at just 160 mm. The various reinforcement options for the girder grid (double-guided girders, bonding with the overlying 3-layer slab) were worked through in detail. Despite this rather complex construction method, the entire wooden construction could be realized at a final price of Fr. 20,000.
