Innovation Campus in Hellerau - naturally made of wood

Deutsche Werkstätten in Hellerau is one of the world's leading companies in the interior design of private residences, yachts and luxury hotels. Their quality standard is correspondingly high. We are looking forward to plan the new campus and to the increasing international projects.

Hellerau is a district on the northern edge of Dresden in the east of Germany. In 1909 it was founded as the first German garden city according to the ideas of Ebenezer Howard.  The original idea of the Garden City of Hellerau was also the basis for the new campus. The renowned architectural firm Caruso St John Architects, with offices in Zurich and London, won the competition with its convincing project "a house in the garden".

They designed the building as a free-standing pavilion in the newly arranged landscape space. With its two storeys, it lies in the shadow of the moving roof landscape of the main building.

The clear room layout is ideal for a timber construction: the central concrete core grounds the entire building and assumes a bracing function. The walls and ceilings of the working rooms are constructed in timber construction.
