Special Issue on the Largest Timber Construction in Switzerland

Line

Timbatec was responsible for the statics and fire protection of the currently largest wooden residential complex, Sue & Til. The Hochparterre published a special issue on the complex with over 300 apartments. Here you will find the exciting e-paper.

At the Sulzer headquarters near Winterthur main station, the transformation is nearing its end. Now the Sulzer branch between Grüze and Oberwinterthur is transformed into a new district. Its name is Neuhegi and it will accommodate 4,000 residents and 8,000 workers.

The most recent building is the Sue & Til residential complex, a 500-meter-long building with commercial space and over 300 apartments. Sue & Til shows how sustainability and timber construction are being received on a large scale. Timber construction means here: Above the concrete base and behind the aluminium façade, 250,000 prefabricated wooden parts fit into each other. External wall elements up to twelve metres long, including insulation, windows and wind paper, came to the construction site.

Here you will find the exciting E-Paper (in German).

Large timber buildings are in trend

Sue & Til is a trendsetter project. It will soon be displaced by the top of the largest wooden buildings: Right next to Winterthur main station, the well-known Sulzerareal is being transformed into the new "Lokstadt" district. Thehouse named  "Crocodile" is being built on this site. Once completed, it will replace Sue & Til, as Switzerland's largest wooden building. Timbatec is planning the statics and fire protection for this major project and is supporting the timber constructors in their work planning. In the report "BIM at Switzerlands largest timber construction" you can learn more about the "Crocodile".
