The city of Vienna is growing - and with it the opportunity to rethink living concepts. On the «Rosenhügel», a foothill of the Vienna Woods in Vienna's 12th district, Vienna's first residential quarter is being built in a wild garden. On about 11 hectares, 2,300 people will live with nature in a neighborly yet urban setting. Co-design has been part of the development concept from the beginning, combining two-family living with multi-story residential buildings. By 2023, around 1,100 residential units will be built in the «Wildgarten» by developers and private building cooperatives, freely financed and partly subsidized.
The residential buildings in the south of the quarter are fully committed to environmentally conscious living. The use of wood is therefore the logical consequence. In the multi-storey residential buildings, the supporting structure is made of the natural raw material wood. Visible wood on the ceilings, as well as on individual walls, create a natural, calm and pleasant living feeling. Timbatec accompanies the project as local construction supervisor and assists the project team in static, building physics and fire protection issues.

The topping-out ceremony took place on June 24. Various finishing works are still pending before the residents can move into their apartments by the end of the year.
