In Deisswil near Bern, more than 250 employees once produced cardboard for the entire country before the responsible persons switched off the machines in 2010. Investor Hans-Ulrich Müller took over the cardboard factory and launched a project to breathe new life into the factory buildings. Today, a new quarter with 170 rental apartments and commercial space is being built under the name of Bernapark.
The venerable factory buildings are still of good quality. They were therefore not demolished, rather they were extended by two storeys in timber construction. Above the factory building, apartments with a view are currently being built. At the moment, the cranes are lifting the last remaining wooden elements to an airy height, where they are precisely assembled by the carpenters.
Aperitif on the Construction Site - Canceled
The announced construction site aperitif unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the current situation.
Statics concept developed by Timbatec
Stuberholz from Schüpfen has won the contract for manufacturing for the timber construction. The construction had always to adapt to old and winding factory buildings. Different load-bearing directions of the ceiling elements and large spans required a sophisticated static concept. Timbatec, was consulted for the development of this concept and for quality assurance.
On the balconies with a view of the Bantiger or towards Bern, the wood remains visible on the ceiling.
