The measurement is the key to success



In Birmensdorf, a commercial building is being extended. The extension is connected to the existing neighbouring building with a 35 metre long wooden ramp and serves as a parking deck for motor vehicles. This week the construction work was started with the tachymeter. They are the basis for the detailed planning.

When adding storeys or renovating buildings, it is particularly important that we have a precise plan of the existing structures. We used a Leica Total Station Builder 509 for the construction survey. With this device and its seamless integration into CADWORK 3D, buildings can be effortlessly surveyed with a laser beam, wirelessly transferred to a notebook and displayed three-dimensionally in CAD with millimetre accuracy. The work plans can later be built on this real geometry. In addition to taking measurements, we are also responsible for the static calculations and fire protection for the extension.

The Project

The existing commercial building is a three-storey skeleton construction made of reinforced concrete elements. On top of this, an additional floor is now being built over the entire roof area as a parking deck for motor vehicles. The wooden extension will be 50 metres long and 38 metres wide. A new 35 meter long wooden ramp will serve as access for the additional 4th floor. 

The additional loads at both ends of the ramp will be carried by steel profiles. A grating will be installed as the driving surface of the open ramp. The floor structure of the parking deck consists of an intercepting grating made of steel profiles with inserted board stacking elements, above which wood-based panels form the static pane. 

The roof is also made of wood: gabled roof girders transfer the roof loads into external supports.

The building on the right hand side will be extended by one floor. Access is via the existing ramp of the left building and the new wooden ramp between the two buildings.
