2019 was a good year for Timbatec - and for timber construction.

The timber construction is booming. Increasing market shares, multi-family houses with over 300 apartments and wooden high-rise buildings are evidence of this. We are happy to be part of this positive development. A short review at the end of the year.

The year began with a handover. Timbatec was once founded by Stefan Zöllig as a one-man business in Steffisburg. Since the beginning of the year, Zöllig has concentrated increasingly on Timber Structures 3.0 AG and the market launch of the revolutionary timber construction technology. On 01.01.2019 Andreas Burgherr took over as Chairman of the Management Board of Timbatec Holzbauingenieure Schweiz AG. Timbatec's successful business year and the positive development of Timber Structures 3.0 AG show that this step was the right one.

Flagship projects for Timbatec

In Winterthur the largest wooden building of Switzerland was built. It's called sue&til. barely after the last tenants had moved into their apartments at the beginning of 2019, the erection work began on the "crocodile". The crocotidile is also built in  Winterthur, where locomotives and machines were once built. The wooden crocodile house with over 250 apartments is an important component of the superstructure.

Great wooden buildings are not only built on the ground, but also at lofty heights. Thanks to its light weight, wood can be used where steel and concrete have no chance: For example, with multi-storey extensions. A good example of this is the extension of the cardboard factory in Deisswil near Bern. On the old factory building, a new quarter with 170 rental apartments and commercial space is being built.

We are proud of these flagship projects. In the current year, we have worked on 350 timber construction projects in Switzerland, Europe and North America. A special concern for us is the use of Swiss wood in construction. Now the new ice rink is being erected in Pruntrut - thanks to far-sighted planning with wood from the surrounding forests.

Good employees for exciting projects

The exciting projects offer new challenges every day for our 33 employees in Thun, Bern, Zurich and Vienna. Thanks to the new and spacious office in Zurich and the additional office space in Bern, our team was able to grow further: in 2019, Fabian Zumbühl and Joel Hächler joined the team. At the beginning of 2020, we will welcome three interns from the Bern University of Applied Sciences.

Successful year for Timber Structures 3.0 AG

Timbatec Holzbauingenieure Schweiz AG develops modern products and technologies. One of them is so promising that it was outsourced in a start-up: Timber Structures 3.0 AG. The year 2019 marks the start of the breakthrough of groundbreaking timber construction technology. At the beginning of the year, TS3 implemented the first project in North America (Naikoon Stairs) and used this opportunity to train the first application engineers in the USA. An important milestone in the development of TS3 followed in the fall of 2019: In Grossaffoltern, four apartment buildings with more than 2000 m2 of TS3 floor slabs were completed. The great development of TS3 was underscored with the Wood Innovation Award. For the coming year, 8000m2 TS3 floor slabs are already planned.

We are looking forward to an exciting year 2020 and wish you a peaceful holiday season.
