Soon the water wheel was grinding grain, mustard and spices. The Schlossmühle Aarau company is at work. They want to get the mill running again.
"Having such a mill in the middle of the city, which is actively being run again, is something very special," says Urs Wälchli, President of the Schlossmühle Society. He himself is helping to restore the interior.
Many parts had to be rebuilt, for example the mustard mill and the flour sieve. Above the basement and ground floor there are new ceilings made of log house planks. Timbatec calculated the cross-sections and dimensions of the new and renovated wooden components so that they could withstand the forces of the milling process. The construction company Zubler AG finally carried out the work.
The power of the water wheel is sufficient to operate the mustard mill. The heavy millstones for the grain are set in motion electrically. The company has not only renovated and refurbished the interior of the castle mill. It has also created an additional room which is used as a mustard cellar. "We are also planning aperitifs and cultural activities there," explains Urs Wälchli.
